It has been an interesting week that I have had a chance to hear multiple different excuses as to why people have quit working out. They know deep down that they need to do some form of exercise for obvious health benefits but that still has not stopped them from actually doing it. And while it is up to the individual what they do, here are the top ten excuses to why people don’t work out and my responses to those excuses as well.
1.) I Need To Get The Rest Of My Life In Order
One of the major priorities of your life needs to be working out and eating healthy. The main reason that this is ranked so high is that if you are not healthy, there won’t be much in your life that needs to be in order. You need to be healthy to lead a long, meaningful life. So the small time each day you put towards exercising is worth it.
2.) I Don’t Want To Be Sore After Working Out
When someone misses a lot of time working out, chances are high that when they start working out again they will be sore. The only way to rid yourself of that soreness is getting into a routine where you often exercise. It may be running, playing a sport, or lifting weights, but if you take time off, you are going to be extremely sore right away. You, unfortunately, have to deal with that as you get back into shape.
3.) Working Out Costs Too Much
I am not going to lie and say that putting together home Gyms in Richmond BC or having a membership at a high-end gym is not going to be expensive. But with this being the summer season and all, there is a lot you can do. You can walk and run for free outside. There are many options to get a cheap bike through Target, Walmart, Craigslist, eBay, or any other place. I also believe that you can do pushups without any equipment. If you really want to work out, there are cheap alternatives than the gym membership per month.
4.) I Don’t Have The Time To Workout
While I know that most people out there are extremely busy, could you cut your lunch twenty minutes and go for a walk? How about getting up earlier and biking to work? There are a lot of different options but you just need to be creative. Few people have the option to spend two hours working out so just do what you can in small amounts if need be.
5.) I Can’t Find Any Workouts That I Enjoy Doing
I have talked about it before but in order to continue working out, you need to be able to find something that you enjoy. If you have the money to go to a gym, speak with them about the different programs that they have. From pilates to yoga to basketball to tennis to running to biking, there are a ton of options out there. Just keep trying different things and see if you can find something you like.
6.) It Is Lonely Working Out
It does get lonely at times working out by yourself. Sometimes it is important to find a partner who can lift, run, or even walk with you. That social connection with your partner may really push you to continue working out. If you have a spouse/significant other who will walk with you, that is a huge help. Also, try classes that a gym may offer because most usually have a great social bond.
7.) I Haven’t Seen Any Improvement When I Did Workout
Chances are slim that you will be seeing any improvement early on. When lifting weights, I have read that you will only see improvement in four weeks. If you are also trying to lose weight, you may need to adjust your diet as well. You need to realize that results don’t happen after day one, no matter what you do.
8.) The Gym Is Too Far Away
Why don’t you try finding a different Gyms in Richmond BC? If that is not an option, consider looking into buying gym equipment that you can use in your house. It is the summer so you also have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Go for some walks or bike rides throughout your neighborhood. There are a lot of options and they may save you that gym fee over time.
9.) I Don’t Even Know Where To Start When Working Out
If you are signed up at a gym, speak with them about a personal trainer or the options available. If you don’t have the money for that, look into just starting walking and log your progress. I have a neighbor who has done a great job every day walking the neighborhood and listening to headphones. She does this all the time and I can bet it helps her feel better about herself.
10.) I Don’t Like Working Out With Others At My Gym
If that is the case, I really don’t blame you. People at the gym can be annoying! For real though, one option is to try a find when the gym is less busy. That will allow you to deal less with the people that you love around the gym. You can also do things around your house to help put you into better shape. Again, how about a home gym?
These are just a few of the many excuses that have come up over time. The biggest key for you to exercise is that you want to. It may be because of the vanity of health reasons, but you need to find a way to want to workout. Not every day is going to be a walk in the park but to put yourself into better physical condition, it may be worth it.
